Amber Sanabria, why they were tortured and killed.

Most of the dead were Tutsis and most of those who killed were Hutus. What triggered the genocide was the death of the Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana who was a Hutu. He was killed when his plane was shot down on April 6, 1994. This was not the only reason the genocide had started. They weren't always enemies though. In 1916 Belgian colonists came and they saw the two groups as differnent people and made the Tutis superior to the Hutus. The Tutsis went along with this becuase the were given the luxury of better jobs and better education. This deffinatly got the Hutus mad over the years and started many riots killing many Tutsis. A group called the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) was formed to overthrow Habyarimana and to secure their right to return to the homeland. After Habyarimana was killed the mass killing spree of those in the RPF.

This shows only a small amount of the people that were killed in the Rwanda Genocide.
